I met the Maniscalcos at Tastee Freez, the best ice cream spot in Logan Square if you ask me. It was a lovely summer evening and I gave them my business card and asked them to contact me if they wanted some family portraits. Some people might find it quite odd for a perfect stranger to do such a thing, but I did it anyway and I'm so glad because I did get to officially meet them and take some family photos a few weeks later!
Even though we spent just a few hours together winding our way through Humboldt Park, I don't feel quite right about calling these lovely people strangers any longer. That seems to happen after I spend time with each of my clients; the line between client and friend becomes a bit more blurred, and that's a very good thing! The best photographs happen when you feel at ease, natural and comfortable. That's the moment you feel at your best, isn't it? And the way to let that happen when you find yourself in front of a camera is to find yourself trusting your photographer. The Maniscalcos did just that, and the images that came out of their end-of-summer photo session display the effortless beauty found in natural, un-posed moments. This family is a dream, and I think you'll agree.
And yes, ending a photoshoot at the best ice cream spot in the neighborhood was totally planned and totally worth it.
